the course explores the expressive uses and values of image and sound in contemporary media art. although focused on cinema, our study will take into account a wide range of still and moving imagery, and image and sound productions within popular, artistic and institutional contexts. we will consider the aesthetic dispositions, formal conventions, artistic intentions and social effects of different image/sound representations and also discuss how the widespread use of representational technologies affects perceptions of self, world and community.
